Candidate for Brazilian Butt Lift

The ideal client for a Brazilian butt lift is looking to increase the volume and increase the size of the buttocks. Additionally, the ideal client has enough excess fat tissue in other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs and flanks. Because the doctor removes* fat tissue from other parts of the body, this procedure offers an added benefit of improving the patient’s overall shape and reducing unwanted abdominal fat, creating a more hourglass figure.

Patients who benefit from a Brazilian butt lift do not have sagging or excessive skin, but instead have a buttocks that lacks shape and volume. The key to a successful Brazilian butt lift is having enough donor fat from other parts of the body. If the patient does not have enough fat to extract and then inject into the buttocks, then this procedure may not be the best option.

Traditional Butt Lift vs Brazilian Butt Lift

In a traditional butt lift, the surgeon removes* sagging and excess skin on the backside. Typically this excess tissue is due to gravity, aging and/or weight loss. In this procedure, the surgeon removes* the unwanted soft tissue and pulls the skin over the buttocks, making it tighter and shaplier. This reduces a sagging backside, but does not address a flat bottom that lacks shape and volume.

With the Brazilian butt lift, the doctor injects the patient’s own fat into the buttocks, making it larger, rounder and shapelier. It does not lift the butt in the same sense as a traditional butt lift, but it reshapes the backside.

Benefits of Butt Augmentation vs. Brazilian Butt Lift

The benefits of a Brazilian butt lift over a butt augmentation are mostly due to complications and risk factors of the procedure. In a butt augmentation, the surgeon surgically places a silicone implant in the buttocks. There is risk of complications with this procedure including implant displacement, hardening of the implant, rupture of the implant and infection.

Additionally, the fat transfer technique of the Brazilian butt lift offers a more natural appearance. The Brazilian butt lift includes a faster and less painful recovery and has minimal scarring. With the Brazilian butt lift, the surgeon is able to create fuller buttocks than with silicone implants and simultaneously improve the shape and contours of the rest of the body.

What to Expect During BBL Recovery

The patient is given anesthesia to ensure comfort and safety throughout the procedure. The entire procedure takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete. After the procedure, patients are given instruction on proper care to support optimal healing. It is important to avoid sitting on the buttocks as much as possible during the first few weeks of healing. While sleeping, patients should lie on their stomach or sides. When sitting, the weight should be positioned forward on the thighs, rather than the buttocks.

Patients are fitted with a compression garment that helps reduce swelling and further shape the buttocks during healing. This garment is typically worn for up to 6 weeks after surgery. After approximately 10 days, patients are able to return to their normal daily activities, including work.

The results of the Brazilian butt lift are immediate. After the procedure, patients should expect that the buttocks will be larger than their desired end result. This is due to swelling and the amount of fat injected into the buttocks. After a few weeks the swelling will subside, and a significant amount of size will be lost.

Additionally, over the course of 3 months of healing, some fat will not survive the procedure and will be naturally metabolized from the body. In general, approximately 50% of the fat injected will remain permanently* in the buttocks. Therefore, patients need to realize that the results immediately visible after the procedure are not the final results. Final results are expected after 3 months of healing.
